best books to learn computer programming?

hi, i was hoping someone could recommend me a good book (or more than 1) on computer programming, i don’t have a particular need for this skill at the moment, but i have wanted to learn how for a long time, if it is more difficult than i know and it will take a lot of books or something please list them in the order i should read them. if there are programs i should use instead just tell me.

First off, you need to chose a language that you would like to learn. I code in VB.net, C#, and Java. In my experience, VB.net is the easiest language to learn, and is also very powerful and is widely used in the business world (IT). Therefore, I would suggest that you set out to learn Visual Basic .Net.

There is a good chance that your local library would carry a book or two on Visual Basic (mine carries these and a few more), any of which would be good.

To begin coding, go to http://www.microsoft.com/express and download Visual Basic 2008 Express. Use the resources from these websites and books to learn how to create a basic Windows Forms Application (the generic program template).
